French Fries | Potato wedges

BISI BELE BATH/ SAMBAR SADHAM


WE NEED:
  • Tuvar dal- 1/2 Cup(Soak for 20 minutes).
  • Peanuts- handul.
  • Rice- 1 Cup(Soak for 10 minutes).
  • Tamarind- Small lemon sized(soaked in water).
  • Onions(cubed)- 1/2 Cup.
  • Tomatoes(sliced)- 1/4 Cup.
  • Mixed Vegetables- 1.5 Cups.
To Powder:

  • Red chilies- 3 no.
  • Coriander seeds- 1 Tbsp.
  • Patta/ Cinnamon- 2 inch.
  • Cloves- 3 no.
  • Marathi Moggu- 1 no.
  • Cumin- 1 Tbsp.
  • Fenugreek- 1 tsp.
  • Urad dal- 1 Tbsp.
  • Chana dal- 1 Tbsp.
  • Shredded coconut- 2 Tbsp
To Temper:
  • Oil- 2 Tbsp.
  • Mustard- 1 tsp.
  • Cumin- 1 tsp.
  • Hing- pinch.
  • Curry leaves- handful.

PROCEDURE:
  • Pressure cook Tuvar dal with 1.5 cups of water for 3 to 4 whistles.
  • Mean while toast all the ingredients listed in To Powder in little oil, let it cool and grind it into a fine powder.
  • Once the pressure releases, add in soaked rice, add in another 3 cups of water, peanuts and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  • In a pan, add in oil, once the oil becomes hot add in mustard, cumin, hing and curry leaves, then add the onions and saute until the onions turns transparent.
  • Add in tomatoes and other veggies, salt, turmeric and cook for 10 minutes, add in the powder we did grind and add in the tamarind extract. 
  • Cook for another 10 minutes, once the pressure releases add in the veggies mixture to the cooked dal and rice. 
  • Check salt for taste, add in 2 Tbsp of ghee to enhance the flavor of the sambar rice.
