The Diwali Day(Nombu/Nomu)



  • On the actual diwali day, we have kedhara gowri viratham(nombu/nomu), we won't eat any thing from morning until the pooja is done(evening). 
  • That day, we take head bath in the morning, then will start cooking,
    The menu for diwali day is:
  1. Beans stir fry
  2. Urlakazzhangu fry(urlagadda fry/potato stir fry)/vazhakai fry(Aratikaya fry/raw banana stir fry), 
  3. Mango Pachadi,
  4. Sambar(okra & brinjal),
  5. 21 Athirasam/nippatlu,
  6. 21 Vada,
  7. 21 Soyyam/sugilu,
  8. Rice
  9. Payasam(i made it for my husband).

After done cooking, we make Kedhara Gowri with turmeric and little bit water place the Gowri devi in nadu veedu (decorate the gauri devi with 2 nose rings and bottu),

We place all these infront of god in three banana leaves,
then place 
  1. 21 Pan leaves
  2. 21 Vokka
  3. 21 Bananas
  4. Auspicious thread(nomu dharam){in our house we are 5 members, so we place 5 threads infront of god then tie to ourselves after pooja is done}
break the coconut and pray in the evening. After praying we all eat together.
