Drumstick leaves kootu/ Munagaku kootu/ murunga keera kootu

Cook time:40 min

Preparation:

  • Soak Toor dal for 1 to 2 hrs.
  • Separate leaves from stems, chop Onions,
Procedure:
  1. Heat water in a pan cook the toor dal, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida and garlic cloves(3 to 4) until the toor dal becomes widen, separated but not mushy. 
  2. Add chopped onions mix well, cook until the onions becomes transparent then add drumstick leaves and salt. Mix well until the leaves becomes half of its original size.
  3. Switch off the stove. Then temper it with mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, channa dal and red chillies(2).



Note;
  1. Don't over cook the leaves(don't let the leaves change color from green to black) because it becomes bitter. 
  2. If u want pressure cook the toor dal for 2 whistles. Make sure that the toor dal should't become mushy.
  3. If you want you can add green chillies for spiciness at the beginning while cooking toor dal.
