Aval Upma | Atukula Upma | Sauted Pressed Rice


WE NEED:

  • Aval/ Atukulu- 1 Cup
  • Onions(chopped)- 1/4 cup
  • Garlic(chopped)- 1 no
  • Green chili(chopped)- 1 no
  • Oil- 1 Tbsp
  • Mustard- 1 tsp
  • Cumin- 1 tsp
  • Urad dal- 1 Tbsp
  • Curry leaves- handful
  • Salt to taste
  • Water- 2 cups
  • Peanuts(crushed)- 2 Tbsp

PROCEDURE:

  • Soak pressed rice in water for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • In a hot pan, add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin, urad dal and curry leaves. Let the mustard crack then add in chopped onions, garlic and green chili.
  • Saute until the onions turns transparent, add in salt to taste, turmeric and sprinkle some water and mix it all together.
  • Squeeze out all the water from the soaked pressed rice and add it to the pan, mix well together. Close the lid and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Finally add in the crushed peanuts to the cooked pressed rice, mix it well and serve it hot. Delicious yet tasty Aval upma is ready.
