Pongal | Ven Pongal



Ingredients


  • Oil- 3 Tbsp
  • Ghee- 2 Tbsp
  • Black peppercorns- 2 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 2 Tbsp
  • Green chillies(chopped)- 2 Tbsp

  • Ginger(finely chopped)- 2 Tbsp
  • Curry leaves- Hand full.
  • Raw Rice- 1 cup
  • Green gram / Moong dal- 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Water- 4 Cups.
  • Asafetida/ Hing- 1 tsp.
Preparation
  • Soak Moong dal and raw rice for 20 min. 
  • In a pressure cooker add in soaked moong dal and raw rice with salt, asafetida, water and ghee. Mix well and pressure cook for 5 whistles. (If using instant pot pressure cook for 10 minutes)
  • Mean while cut green chillies, ginger into small pieces. Crush pepper corns slightly. Then temper these in oil along with curry leaves and asafetida. 
  • Add the tempered ingredients to the pressure cooked rice mixture and mix well. Thats it tasty pongal is ready. You can serve it with Coconut Chutney or sambar.
