Ingredients
- Oil- 3 Tbsp
- Ghee- 2 Tbsp
- Black peppercorns- 2 Tbsp
- Cumin seeds- 2 Tbsp
- Green chillies(chopped)- 2 Tbsp
- Ginger(finely chopped)- 2 Tbsp
- Curry leaves- Hand full.
- Raw Rice- 1 cup
- Green gram / Moong dal- 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
- Water- 4 Cups.
- Asafetida/ Hing- 1 tsp.
Preparation
- Soak Moong dal and raw rice for 20 min.
- In a pressure cooker add in soaked moong dal and raw rice with salt, asafetida, water and ghee. Mix well and pressure cook for 5 whistles. (If using instant pot pressure cook for 10 minutes)
- Mean while cut green chillies, ginger into small pieces. Crush pepper corns slightly. Then temper these in oil along with curry leaves and asafetida.
- Add the tempered ingredients to the pressure cooked rice mixture and mix well. Thats it tasty pongal is ready. You can serve it with Coconut Chutney or sambar.
