Garlic Chutney | Poondu Chutney

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes- 1(small)
  • Red chillies- 10(Soak in hot water for 1hour)
  • Garlic Cloves- 3/4 cup
  • Tamarind- small lemon sized ball
  • Raw Coconut- 1/4 cup
  • Coriander Seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering
  • Oil- 2 Tbsp
  • Mixture of mustard seeds, Urad dal, Chana dal, Cumin seeds - 1 tsp each.
  • Curry leaves- Hand full.
Preparation
  • Heat a pan, add in oil, coriander and cumin seeds, let it change color. Add in garlic, red chilies, mix and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add raw coconut, tomatoes and turmeric, cook till the tomatoes become soft and mushy. 
  • Let it cool, add in tamarind and blend it to fine paste.
  • Heat the oil in a pan, add in the items listed below "FOR TEMPERING", let the mustard seeds splutter and add this to the Chutney. 
  • Tasty Garlic Chutney will be ready. It tastes good with rice, dosa or idli.
